LAWYER SAYS SILVERA NOT BEING INVESTIGATED
Political operatives as well as the man in the street in St Mary are stunned by the news that a murder investigation is underway into the death of Melissa Silvera, wife of former PNP Member of Parliament Joylan Silvera.
Melissa Silvera died November 10. It was reported she died in her sleep.
However, last weekend a post mortem found that there were three gunshot fragments in her body causing police to open an investigation into murder.
Silvera the one-term MP was interrogated by police at his home in Stony Hill St Andrew. His licenced firearm has been seized for ballistic tests.
Attorney Peter Champagnie, KC, said his client Silvera, is not under murder investigation.
Unconfirmed reports are that the room in which Mrs Silvera died has had structural changes including to tiles.
Silvera shot to prominence in 2012 with a shock defeat of Robert Montague. Mr Montague has since regained the seat and remains MP for Western St Mary.
People approached in Pembroke Hall where Silvera grew up were unwilling to be identified with their comments but said they were shocked by the news of the murder investigation.
Joylan and Melissa were married at the St Andrew Parish Church on Saturday, December 12, 2015. They would have celebrated their eighth-anniversary last week.
