Up to late Thursday evening it appeared unlikely there would be classes at York Castle High School in Brown’s Town  Friday, November 10.

The co-educational institution was closed close to 2 p.m. on the advice of the police Thursday.

(Principal Raymon Treasure told to close school )

This was after the school notified the police of a bomb threat it had received. More than a dozen other schools in four parishes were evacuated and closed by mid-morning after their administration received email saying explosive devices were planted at the schools.

Thursday afternoon, the police said the bomb threats were a hoax. However they said they were investigating.

The Jamaica Teachers Association advised school administrations and teachers not to take the threat lightly.

Speaking to the North Coast Times after 9 p.m. Thursday, Raymon Treasure, Principal of York Castle said parents were advised of Thursday’s closure and that the school was awaiting clearance from the police before he  could say classes would take place Friday. Mr Treasure said he was still waiting on the police.

The following is the message circulated in the schools Parents WhatsApp Group

Good evening parents:

“By now you would have gotten information that school was closed this afternoon because of a bomb threat that was circulated in an email to several schools including York Castle.

“The police instructed the administration to close school after the email was shared with them. The campus was also cordoned off and we now await further instructions from the police about when school should resume classes.

Looking forward to a positive outcome.”
