Police who issued a statement Tuesday afternoon did not say what action was being taken at the school or by the various agencies investigating. The North Coast Times was informed that the Child Protection and Family Service Agency is said to have visited the school and is providing counselling..
In the viral video, one boy is seen punching and hitting another much smaller boy who falls to the ground and is then kicked. Other children from the same school tried to intervene but were unable to stop the beating. One of them could be heard screaming to the aggressor “leave him alone”.
Here is the statement from the police:
“The video depicts children at a primary school in a physical altercation.
“After being made aware of the video, school resource officers attached to the Portland Community Safety and Security Branch (CSSB) [of the Jamaica Constabulary Force] visited the school on Tuesday, September 17. The students involved in the altercation were identified and their parents notified. The students involved are ages 9, 10 and 12.
“All parties involved, including the police, the Child Protection and Family Services Agency, representatives from the Ministry of Education and Youth and the school administration have pledged to work together to address the incident.
