A man has been taken into custody in connection with a brutal attack that left a senior citizen dead, in Islington, St Mary, Sunday morning, and November 23. Dead is 73-year-old retiree, Winston Blackwood of Nutsfield, Islington. Reports are that Blackwood who had been out late Saturday night was attacked by men in his home. It is reported that others in the household who got out of bed when Blackwood was being attacked were shoved into a room and locked in. Blackwood was reportedly robbed of several pieces of jewellery and chains which he was wearing. He was then stabbed several times over the face and upper body. He was pronounced dead at hospital. Residents said Blackwood who was distinguished by several chains, rings and other jewellery he wore was targeted for robbery. It is reported that the previous evening (Saturday) he was out late into the night drinking with community friends. It is not clear if Blackwood came home and met the robbers in his home as he was killed in the living area. Police, Monday, would not confirm the robbery motive but a senior cop said the investigation was proceeding fairly well.
