The mother of a seven-year-old boy, who was hit down by a motorcar on Heroes Day, Monday, October 17 in Ocho Rios, St Ann, says she needs to know what is happening with the investigations into the accident.
Dead is Kevroy Boreland of Mansfield Green in Ocho Rios in the parish.
According to Nicole Thomas, Kevroy’s mother, she has not heard much in terms of where the investigations are in the case.
“Need fi know something,” Ms Thomas told The Times in an interview on Monday, October 24.
NOT TOTALLY TRUE
Reports from the Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) are that at about 5:43 p.m., Boreland was walking with relatives along the sidewalk on the Ocho Rios bypass, when he broke away from them and ran into the roadway.
A grey Toyota motorcar that was travelling along the bypass hit young Boreland as he ran out into the roadway.
However, according to Ms Thomas, the story is not totally true as her son was being held by his sister as they crossed the Ocho Rios bypass. She said that some persons said that the female driver was on her phone at the time.
“I wasn’t there at the time it (the accident) happen. But I heard the screaming, because it not far from where I live,” Ms Thomas recounted.
DIED ON THE WAY TO HOSPITAL
A video surfaced on Facebook, that showed a woman crying and screaming as she holds young Boreland. Ms Thomas explained that that was her in the video as she ran on the scene.
The blood was evident on the roadway as several onlookers were in shock at the incident as Ms Thomas held her son in her arms.
In the video, Ms Thomas carried young Kevroy in her arms off the roadway and they left the scene in a grey bus.
“They (occupants of grey bus) were just passer-by. I don’t know them,” she said.
She explained that her son died before she reached the hospital. “He was still breathing, but he died just before we reached the hospital,” she added.
Reports had surfaced that the female driver of the motorcar stopped after the boy was hit, but a crowd that quickly descended on the scene became boisterous and banged on the car.
However, Ms Thomas said that was not true.
“The only person that bang on her car was my daughter. She was telling her (the driver of the car) that she lick down her brother and needed help… but she drive off,” she explained.
Police further said that the female driver of the grey Toyota motorcar later reported the incident at Prospect Police Station in St Mary.
The police have said that since the incident, they have questioned the female driver and she has been cooperating with the investigations. The police are also collecting statements from those who witnessed the incident.
NOT EVEN SORRY
However, Ms Thomas explained that she has not been hearing anything about the case.
“From the accident we not even see her (the driver) and if a even sorry,” Ms Thomas said.
Young Kevroy was a grade one student of the Ocho Rios Preparatory School and was one of two children for Ms Thomas.
“He said he wanted to be a soldier… He was everything you could describe. It is very hard to explain. I can’t even think sometimes,” a distraught Ms Thomas explained, while reflecting that her son’s favourite meal was always chicken and dumplings.
She said that it was very hard for her side of the family to cope with the young Kevroy’s death.
