INCIDENT TOOK PLACE ON SCHOOL COMPOUND, BOYS APPEARED IN COURT
Four schoolboys are before the courts on rape charges relating to an incident at a St Ann high school last month.
The boys in the upper grades of the high school were offered bail when they appeared in court on Tuesday.
The charges arose out of an incident at the school in St Ann where four boys sexually assaulted a 16-year-old girl. The girl was hospitalized.
Police have confirmed the incident but have denied they are seeking a fifth boy who has been on the run since then.
The four who were in custody at a police station in the south of the parish were charged following an identification parade. They have been charged with rape and aiding and abetting rape. They have made two appearances in court. It was not clear if they are still in custody.
According to reports reaching the North Coast Times, the incident took place at the school on September 8. The girl was reportedly in a relationship with one of the boys.
She has not returned to school since.
The Board of the school is said to be “hopping mad” that the matter was not reported to the Board chairman, although the police became involved and a critical incident report was filed with the Regional Office of the Ministry of Education.
Efforts by The North Coast Times to contact the Board Chairman Wednesday, failed.
