Were At Sea For 3 Days
Thirty-seven Haitian nationals landed in Portland, in a small boat Monday afternoon, July 10.
The boatload of Haitians included eight children and 29 adults.
They landed at Boston Beach in the east of the parish and were assisted with food by several Portlanders. The Haitians appeared weak and had difficulty communicating with the Jamaicans.
The boat, about 15 feet long, had been at sea for nearly three days. Haiti continues to be rocked by gang violence and a weak central Government.
On Monday evening, the Haitians were being screened at the Port Antonio Health Centre. It is expected they will ask to stay in Jamaica.
