3 weeks later, another motorist succumbs to injuries from St Ann crash

  • Taxi operator was also killed

Family members and friends are now in a state of shock, while the community of Exchange is mourning the loss of one their own, as a man succumbed to injuries he sustained in a three- vehicle collision on Tuesday morning, March 29.

Forty-nine-year-old Deon Proudlove of Exchange, St Ann became the second person to die from the fatal accident on the White River main road near the St Mary/St Ann border.

A taxi operator, 37-year-old Ian Harrow of Lewis District, St. Ann, succumbed to injuries at hospital that Tuesday morning.

Reports from the Ocho Rios police are that at about 1:25 a.m., Harrow was travelling towards Prospect, St. Mary in a white Toyota Corolla motorcar, which collided head on with a Toyota Corona motorcar driven by Proudlove.

A third vehicle collided into the back of the Toyota Corona motorcar. The motorists were assisted to the hospital by lawmen.

Harrow was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. Up to eight persons were taken to the hospital for treatment.

SEVERAL INJURIES

The brother of Proudlove, Anthony Proudlove, explained that his brother received several injuries from the accident including head, leg and stomach injuries

He was initially admitted to the St Ann’s Bay hospital, but on Wednesday he was flown by helicopter to the Kingston Public Hospital (KPH), where surgery was performed that night.

Despite the surgery, Proudlove never regained consciousness. He finally succumbed to his injuries on April 22.

Proudlove’s brother, Anthony, further explained that on the day of the accident, his brother, who normally drove his boss’ car, had picked him up (his boss) at the airport in Montego Bay, St James. He had dropped his boss home, and was on his way home to Exchange, St Ann, when tragedy struck.

Proudlove was alone in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

LOVING PERSON

“He (Deon Proudlove) was a friendly, jovial, and loving person. Everybody is sad about it; from family, girlfriend, the community, even me have to end up a hospital,” Proudlove’s brother, Anthony explained.

According to him, Proudlove leaves behind two daughters.

“The last time me see him was the Saturday night before the accident happen Tuesday. Him tell me dat him need a red plate to run taxi. Mi say to him me ago try sort it out,” he explained.

Proudlove normally did deliveries for his boss and any errands with the vehicle. His boss and his wife have also been shaken over his death.
