Three persons, including a two-year-old girl and a popular Ocho Rios woman, were among three persons killed in two road crashes in St Ann last week.
The crashes occurred almost 24 hours apart.
Those killed are two-year-old Omelia Riley from Steer Town, who died in a crash that left her parents hospitalized on Tuesday night, May 9.
The following night, Wednesday, May 10, popular Ocho Rios woman, Shakeria Mesquita and a man, 22-year-old Bernard Pearce, an electrician of Jackson Town, Trelawny died in a motor vehicle collision on the Queens Highway, near Discovery Bay.
Investigators are continuing their probe into both crashes.
PARENTS STILL IN HOSPITAL
Police are still continuing with their investigations into the death of little Omelia, stemming from the crash.
Police say they believe that Omelia’s father, who was driving a green Toyota Tercel may have been at fault in that crash.
Police reports are that the driver of a red Toyota Wish was travelling along the AGR Byfield Highway last Tuesday night heading west, to Runaway Bay from Ocho Rios.
Further reports are that at about 10:40 p.m., young Omelia was travelling with her parents along Windsor road in a green Toyota Tercel motorcar driven by her father.
The car drove out when it reached the intersection of the AGR Byfield Highway and the Windsor main road and collided into the path of the Toyota Wish motorcar.
Both the drivers, along with Omelia and her mother were rushed to the St Ann’s Bay hospital.
Omelia sustained multiple injuries and was pronounced dead.
The little girl’s parents were admitted in serious, but stable condition.
The driver of the Toyota Wish was treated and released.
The father and the mother are still in hospital, but their condition is not considered serious.
OCHO WOMAN, ELECTRICIAN KILLED
The crash that claimed the life of Shakeria Mesquita, who police said was of an Exchange, St Ann address and Bernard Pearce, involved a blue Honda Civic, driven by him (Pearce) with Mesquita on board, and a black Toyota Voxy, driven by a female driver, who had a female passenger on board.
Both vehicles were travelling along the Queens Highway.
Pearce was driving the Honda Civic towards Trelawny, while the Toyota Voxy was heading in the opposite direction towards Runaway Bay.
Further police reports are that at about 8:26 p.m., the female driver of the Toyota Voxy was in the process of overtaking a truck that was loaded with sugarcane on the highway.
It was alleged that Pearce was also approaching at a fast speed.
According to police, the driver of the Toyota Voxy tried to avoid making contact with the Honda Civic by swerving to the right side of the road, but ended up on the soft shoulder. The civic ended up at the same place and collided with the Voxy.
Pearce and Mesquita, along with two women who were travelling in the Toyota Voxy motor car, received multiple injuries and were assisted to hospital.
Pearce and Mesquita died, while undergoing treatment.
The female driver of the Toyota Voxy is said to be in serious condition at the hospital. The other injured woman remains in the hospital.
