FIRE CONFINED TO ONE APARTMENT, NO INJURY

There was no injury or death from a fire at a ninth-floor apartment at Turtle Towers in Ocho Rios, St Ann on Thursday. The building has 11 floors.
The fire was confined to one apartment on one of Ocho Rio’s oldest multi-storey buildings, which serves mainly as residences
Anthony Hinds Divisional Commander of the Jamaica Fire Brigade said they received a call about the fire at the St Ann’s Bay station at 10:09 am, Thursday., January 9, 2025.
Three units responded — two from St Ann’s Bay and one from Ocho Rios. A total of 24 firefighters fought the blaze.
He said: “The fire was confined to an apartment on the ninth floor of Tower number 4; the brigade went into operation and brought the fire under control; no injury nor death was reported. Investigations are still ongoing.”
An estimate of the loss was not immediately available
News of the fire came while the Monthly General meeting of the St Ann Municipal Corporation was in session. Mayor Michael Belnavis told the meeting that things were under control and a team from the Council visited the site after the meeting.
