3 charged in St Ann for cash transaction over $1-M Portlander also to be charged

The St Ann police have charged three people for conducting business with more than one million dollars in cash.

Charged are: Devon Hayden, owner of Drax Hall Auto Brokers, St Ann, his secretary Andrene Green and a customer of the business Gary Jones of Runaway Bay. Police said they found cash receipts at the auto place and with Jones showing he paid over one million dollars in cash to purchase a 2009 Toyota Corolla.
The police have also arrested another man, also for a cash tranaction of over one million dollars from Drax Hall Auto Brokers. Police tracked the man to Portland where they arrested him. He is expected to be charged by Thursday,
Under the amended Proceeds of Crime Act, paying or receiving cash of more than one million dollars is an offence.
All four have been arrested in connection with the sale and purchase of motor cars in November last year.

The investigations and arrests were carried out by the Proactive Investigative Unit (PIU) headed by Sgt Kirk Nicholls. This is believed to be the first arrests under the Act outside of Westmoreland and Manchester.
