ACCUSED SEVERELY BEAT WOMAN AFTER FAILED RAPE ATTEMPT

A 24-year-old St Mary man accused of severely beating a 97-year-old woman following his failure to rape her has been charged for the woman’s death.
The beating put her in hospital three times before she succumbed.
Charged with murder is 24-year-old construction worker Ronaldo Robinson, otherwise called ‘Biggs’ of Top Road, Jeffery Town, St. Mary.
Robinson is charged in connection with the death of 97-year-old retiree Gwendolyn Bailey.
Police say the charges arose from an incident on Sunday, March 31, 2024, in Jefferey Town when Robinson broke into the woman’s house and attempted just before dawn, to sexually assault her. However, his attempt was unsuccessful.
According to a police news release, “After his failed attempt he [Robinson] proceeded to severely beat” the elderly woman resulting in her being admitted to hospital.
Ms Bailey was released from hospital and then re-admitted twice as a result of her injuries and later succumbed.
Robinson was initially charged with attempted rape, burglary, and assault occasioning grievous bodily harm. However, the charge was upgraded to murder following a post-mortem examination on Monday, May 27.
His court date is being finalized.
