AWARDS INCLUDED FOR SPORTS, CULTURE, GALLANTRY
Twenty-four persons were honoured at the St Mary Heroes Day ceremony held at the Civic Centre, Port Maria on Monday, October 21, 2024.

The 24 were recognized by the St Mary Municipal Corporation for their service in several areas including Agriculture, Sports, Culture, Education, Community Service and service to Humanitarian causes.

The awardees included Tamara Ivy who received a plaque for gallantry for having rescued a three-year-old boy from drowning in the Wag Water River.
Three centenarians were recognized and awarded: 104-year-old Catherine Clarke 100-year-old Beryl McIntosh Días and Wilhelm Mae Baxter.

Dignitaries in attendance included Custos of the Parish Errol Johnson; Member of Parliament for Western St Mary Robert Montague; Mayor of Port Maria Fitzroy Wilson; Deputy Mayor Paul Fyffe and several other councillors.
The new police commanding officer for the parish, Deputy Superintendent Anthony Wallace was also in attendance.

Tributes were read by several councillors and youth councillors to each of Jamaica’s National Heroes.
