$200,000 SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME

Eight children in 4 schools in Retreat Division, St Mary to benefit — Col. RadwayScholarship

Colonel Hugh Radway, councillor for the Retreat division in the St Mary Parish Council, has come up with yet another initiative to benefit the communities he serves.
The businessman has put in place measures to roll out the Tom Radway scholarship program, in honour of his father. The scholarship programme is to recognize the success and achievements of four primary schools within the Retreat division.
The primary schools in the scholarship programs are: Retreat Primary and Junior High, Three Hills Primary, Newstead Primary and Labrynth Primary. In the inaugural year of the scholarships, at least, two students from each school will be awarded scholarships of $25,000 each, a grand total of $200,000. These scholarships will be awarded to the highest GSAT performing top boy and girl from each school, based on the assessed needs of the students. The scholarships are to be presented on the school’s graduation ceremony at the end of the academic year 2015.
The selection of the recipients will be done by the administrative staff and teachers of each institution. Mr Radway stressed to The Times that the scholarships would not be issued on any political agenda. He said they would be done by professional educators on the basis of the GSAT performance and the needs of the recipients.
“These scholarships to be funded by me will be to help these children to move on to secondary schools and to help their parents to put this money to good use so that it may help them to be financially stable towards their child’s education”
He said the scholarships were being funded from his resources and provision was being made to have the programme continue each year.
“My word is my bond” said Councillor Radway, stating that if anything he expects to expand the programme in subsequent years.
