$20-M DAMAGE AS HOUSE GOES UP IN FLAMES AT WINDSOR

FIRE BRIGADE COMMENDED EVEN THOUGH THEY RAN OUT OF WATER

A four-bedroom house in Windsor, Portland, was destroyed by fire Sunday morning, Aug 25,  leaving a woman to count her losses in the millions of dollars.

Nadine McPherson says she has lost most of what she has worked for in the last 25 years. The house was in Piggery, Windsor.

Ms McPherson says she went to assist a friend who is building her house and returned after mid-day to see her house on fire and residents and the fire brigade making efforts to save the structure.

“When I came back the house was on fire just after midday. No one was here, nothing have been saved everything is gone. The nine apartments are gone the kitchen, two bathrooms, four bedrooms, living room, and dining room totally toasted, and the verandah,” she said.

She said she commended the fire service although their water ran out “a couple of times” as they fought the blaze. There was no working hydrant nearby. One unit from port Antonio and another from Buff Bay put out the fire.

The first to respond, however, were neighbours who kicked off doors to enter the house but could not control or put out the fire.

Ms McPherson said: I lost everything I’ve worked for [over] twenty-five years and I have tried to make this place for me and my family. Everything is gone.”

The Portland fire service estimated the damage to be twenty million dollars.
