2 STUDENTS PERISH IN PORTLAND CRASH

TAXI  CRASHES INTO PARKED TRUCK, 5 OTHERS INJURED

BUFF BAY, Portland:

Two Titchfield High School students perished in a fatal crash near Buff Bay, Portland, on Tuesday afternoon, May 14, 2024.

Reports are that about 4 o’clock a fatal crash occurred along the Blueberry Hill Main Road, Buff Bay, Portland at White Rock. A blue Toyota Picnic seven-seater taxi was travelling westerly when it crashed into a stationary motor truck, laden with sand and gravel. The truck had reportedly broken down on the road.

All occupants of the car were taken to Annotto Bay Hospital. Two students from Titchfield High were pronounced dead and five others, including the driver of the Toyota Picnic, were being treated.

Meantime, Minister of Transport Daryl Vaz who is also MP for West Portland where the crash occurred says these tragic events are happening too often,

In a release Tuesday night, Vaz expressed his devastation at the news stating, “This is truly heartbreaking, and I can only imagine the pain and suffering of the parents and loved ones of the victims, especially the deceased”.

The Minister further stated, “It is always devastating when we hear about persons losing their lives in this way, but it takes on a different tone when we lose our young people. Something must be done to stem the tide of motor vehicle crashes that occur in the country and it is not something that I take lightly as Minister with responsibility for Transport and Member of Parliament”.
