  • Cops should easily crack case of stabbing outside club
  • Vendor slain where he did business

Two men were stabbed and killed in separate murder incidents in Ocho Rios, St Ann last week.

Those killed are: 26-year-old Shane Black, otherwise called ‘Randy’ of Three Hills, St Mary and Shaw Park in Ocho Rios, and 44-year-old Donald Brown, alias Fagan, a vendor of Exchange.

Black was stabbed to death before dawn on Tuesday, July 4, outside a night club, while Brown was killed last Wednesday, July where he carried out his livelihood in White River.

The police have not apprehended anyone in either killing.

STABBED OUTSIDE CLUB

According to Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) “at about 3:45 a.m., Black was standing outside a business establishment, when he was attacked and stabbed several times. He was assisted to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.”

The CCU did not state if it was a group of men who inflicted the stab wounds to Black. However, investigations by the North Coast Times show that Black was stabbed multiple times during a confrontation with a group of men outside the night club just after 4 o’clock.

Reports to The Times are that Black and a woman and another couple travelling together turned up at the club just as it was closing or had closed. The four were taunted and teased by a group of about eight men leaving the club. Expletives were thrown and threats were made on both sides.

Some reports also suggest that this was not the first encounter between the two groups.

The argument escalated as the club’s security staff tried to keep the two groups apart.

A gun was reportedly brought into play, at which point some of the men said what community they were from and that they could bring bigger guns. The club’s security then retreated. It was at this point that Black was stabbed at least four times in the back.

One couple who had been with Black earlier left the scene and his attackers fled. Black was put into a car and taken to St Ann’s Bay hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Reports to the Times are that police preliminary look at CCTV footage has led to confidence that they can identify all the people involved and should be able to crack the case.

In the meantime, head of crime for St Ann, deputy superintendent (DSP) Richard Hilton told the North Coast Times that no one has been held for the killing, but investigations are ongoing into the matter.

A friend of Black, Peter Letchford said Black was like a brother. He said they had planned to be elsewhere that night but circumstances had prevented that. He said Black operated a food shop in Ocho Rios and sometimes worked as a security guard at an establishment on Main Street.

“The whole street where he lived in Three Hills is mourning,” said a member of that community who knew him well.

VENDOR STABBED IN WHITE RIVER

Donald Brown, a vendor, met his demise at his stall in the White River area of St Ann last Wednesday after being stabbed by a man.

The Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) reported that “Brown and a man were involved in a dispute, when a knife came into play and Brown was stabbed several times. He was taken to the hospital, where he died while undergoing treatment.”

Reports to The Times are that Brown’s attacker fled the scene after inflicting the wounds. Some reports say Brown was involved in several disputes at White River, where he did his business.

DSP Hilton, who is in charge of crime, explained that the police are receiving some information and are continuing their investigations into that case.
