2 men before court for gun, robbery charges

One of two men before the court for robbery and gun related charges was offered bail when he appeared before the St Ann’s Bay Parish Court on October 5.

The men are Paul Pennant and Jermaine Hibbert, from Spanish Town in St Catherine.

Hibbert was offered bail, however, his co-accused Pennant, had his bail denied.

The investigating officer presented a letter for bail to be offered to Hibbert, however, according to Judge Wilson the letter contained no information on the conditions of bail and claims the investigating officer came with no intention of getting bail.

Hibbert was later granted bail in the sum of $500,000 with sureties. He is to relocate to St Catherine and not return to St.Ann unless legally permitted to do so and not interfere with crown witnesses. If the bail is taken up, he should report to the Spanish Town Police Station between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. and heed to curfew of 6 pm to 6 am each day.

Attorney Everal Webster begged for a reduction of the bail and it was denied.

Mr. Webster argued that without a bail reduction, “it’s almost like giving bail with one hand and taking it away with the other.” He was then assured by Judge Wilson that if one man speaks up regarding their involvement with the matter then a reduction could be given. Neither of the accused said anything.

Both men should return to court on October 13 when they will be informed if the matter is to be transferred to the Circuit Court.gun
