14-y-o in custody for shooting to death St James girl

The St James police are continuing their probe into the fatal shooting of a nine-year-old girl, allegedly by a 14-year-old boy in Hendon, Norwood, St James on Friday, June 30.

Dead is Kela Bailey of Beverly Hills in Hendon, Norwood in the parish. She was a student of the Glendevon Primary and Junior High School.

The police report that the alleged teen killer was handed over to the police by his family members shortly after the incident and remains in custody. He is to be questioned in relation to the incident.

Other persons, who are likely to be potential witnesses in the case, will be interviewed at a later date.

It is reported that about 3 p.m., last Friday, Kela was inside the family house in a downstairs room playing with two relatives and the 14-year-old.

The teen later brandished a firearm and asked Kela’s younger brother if he would tell anyone if he shot her. However, before the boy could give an answer, the 14-year-old carried out the deadly act and shot Kela once.

The boy then ran from the scene with the firearm, which investigators said belonged to a licensed firearm holder.

Kela was rushed to the hospital, where she died while undergoing treatment.

Meanwhile, the police have not yet found the firearm used in the incident. The police believe that persons in the area took it and operations are being conducted to find the weapon.
